Armed man barricaded inside a vehicle in Fort Pierce.
Sheriff’s deputies are on scene at the Flying J truck stop at the intersection of Kings Highway and Orange Avenue. An armed male has barricaded himself inside a vehicle.
The personal vehicle side of the truck stop is closed to incoming customers. Residents are urged to avoid the area.

The man surrendered peacefully after negotiations with St Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara.
Authorities believed that the man, a former officer from Miami-Dade, wanted to commit suicide by cop after a fight with his girlfriend. Negotiators with the sheriff’s officer established contact, and the man came out of his car with his hands up after speaking with the sheriff. The parking lot to the Flying J was closed to the public during the incident.
