 Apartment Complex Blaze in PSL deemed an accident

 

Port ST Lucie, FL (treasurecoast.com)- On March 26, 2019 at around 2:05 pm, Port St. Lucie along with St. Lucie County Fire/ Rescue went to the Apartment Complex (Waterleaf Town Homes /1902 SE Hillmoor Drive) to investigate a fire.

Preliminary investigation revealed one of the buildings within the apartment complex suffered extensive damage due to a blazing fire. Fire/ Rescue and Officers arrived on scene and immediately began evacuating the adjoining residences to include several dogs and cats that were inside the apartments.

Officers learned a pot of hot oil was left on top of the stove by a household member as they left the apartment and upon return noticed the apartment on fire. Firefighters deemed the building uninhabitable due to the extensive damage and smoke.

Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out and deemed it an accident. Animal Control responded to assist with the removal of the animals and Red Cross has been contacted to assist with displacement of six families.

Apartment #5 suffered severe damage and apartments #4 and #6 had mostly smoke and water damage. There is no power to any of these apartments currently.

No injuries were reported.
