99-year-old man riding scooter hit and killed in Port St. Lucie

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com)-  On July 15 at around 10:35 am, police responded to the intersection of US Highway 1 and Port St Lucie Boulevard for reports of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation revealed the ninety-nine-year-old white male (decedent) was attempting to cross US Hwy 1 eastbound on the north crosswalk while operating an electric three-wheel scooter.  At the same time, a Jeep Cherokee operated by a forty-one-year-old female driver was attempting to make a left turn from SE Port St. Lucie Boulevard to travel northbound on US Hwy 1.

The Jeep Cherokee collided into the electric scooter.  The male operating the scooter was transported to a local hospital by St Lucie County Fire Rescue and later pronounce dead.

The operator of the Jeep Cherokee was not injured.

This incident is actively being investigated by Port St Lucie Police Traffic Homicide Investigators.
