61 Straight wins! Vero Beach Fighting Indians set new state record

TreasureCoast, Fl- 61 straight wins! The Vero Beach Fighting Indians have set the new state record for consecutive regular season victories. Vero Beach High School went on the road Friday night to defeat Fort Pierce Central 28-3. Vero Beach’s record-setting win bests the previous mark set by Lakeland High School in the 1990s. After the game the players like quarterback Ryan Jankowski had a chance to look back on what they’ve accomplished.

But Jankowski says they won’t dwell on this for long. Their ultimate goal is to win a state championship.

Vero isn’t the only team celebrating. Jensen Beach won their first district championship in school history by defeating Coconut Creek 21-14. Fort Pierce Westwood also clinched their division with a 22-14 win over Sebastian River. But it was Treasure Coast and Centennial that had the game of the week. Treasure Coast jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Centennial battled back and tied the game in the 2nd half, sending it to overtime. Centennial scored first in OT, kicking the extra point to go up by 7. But Treasure Coast answered with a score of their own, and the 2-point conversion gave the Titans a 22-21 win. In other games, Martin County fell to Palm Beach Lakes 53-23, and South Fork scored a last minute touchdown to beat Port St Lucie 20-14.
