500 gallon fuel spill in Martin County

Martin County,(Treasurecoast.com)- There has been a 500-gallon fuel spill in St Lucie  River near Roosevelt Bridge.

The spill happened at about 12:45 p.m. when a fuel truck spilled between 300 to  500 gallons of fuel while trying to fill up a 90-foot Hatteras yacht.

The fuel spilled in the North fork of the St. Lucie River, north of the Old Roosevelt Bridge in a marina off of Northwest Dixie Highway. The boat was docked at the Stuart Harbor Marina.

Yesterday when this was happening i personally drove to the area and I did see a fuel truck filling a boat. According to someone at the scene a police boat was driving by. They saw the fuel and followed it to the boat. It was determined by the captain an fuel truck to be less than a minute.

Oct 10 update

More information on the oil spill in the St Lucie River over the weekend. Response teams who cleaned it up initially said that there were between three to five hundred gallons of oil spilled into the river. According to Stephen Ellis, owner of Dockside Petroleum Services, who said the amount of oil spilled was less than a hundred gallons.
