31-mile high speed chase leads to arrest of Miami Men who stole from Home Depot

Stuart, Fl- Stuart Police say they caught two Miami men stealing around $2,000 worth of merchandise from Home Depot, Tuesday night. A shopper saw something suspicious, and said something. The tip allowed Stuart Police to catch up with the two men, but not before they were led on a 31-mile high speed chase. Eventually, the men were arrested and the stolen merchandise recovered.

Officer Cory Lee leads the Stuart PD’s Business Watch Program. He takes time to educate business owners on how to prevent theft and report it. They work with businesses like the Sneaki Tiki in Stuart. Owner Darin Ruddock says they have a camera system installed. He’ll receive a phone call from police asking him to check his surveillance video. If he has what they are looking for, he can hand it over.

Officer Lee says since the program started he’s reached around 200 businesses.

While Officer Lee says the program is being accepted by smaller businesses, big box stores like the Home Depot have been slow to sign up.
