23-year-old PSL man arrested and charged with multiple auto-burglaries

Port St. Lucie, Fl- On May 15, 2019, Port St. Lucie Police arrested 23-year-old Melvin Orkel Armstead of Vero Beach. He was arrested on three counts of auto-burglary to unoccupied/ unlocked cars, 1 count of petit theft and violation of probation. The auto-burglaries occurred at the 2800 Block & 2900 Block of SE Buccaneer Circle, PSL.

Police went to the 2900 Block of Buccaneer Cir, PSL, for reports of a black male suspect. He was seen entering and rummaging through parked cars in driveways.  Multiple witnesses saw  Armstead flee the area. The witnesses chased him to assist police.

Witnesses explained Armstead attempted to enter a residence (2800 Block SE Buccaneer Circle) while attempting to flee. However, the residence was locked.  He managed to get away from the witnesses. Then police located and apprehended Melvin Orkel Armstead at a vacant house under construction (2700 Block SE Buccaneer Circle, PSL).

Melvin Orkel Armstead was in possession of two cell phones and three one-dollar bills. The cash was placed into evidence.

The cars involved in these auto-burglaries were unlocked at the time of the burglary. Police are asking for residents to please secure/lock your vehicles and do not leave valuables in plain view.
