10 refugees washed up at Jupiter Island

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is assisted Customs and Border Patrol (CBT), Homeland Security, Jupiter Island Police, and FWC with a refugee landing that took place this morning on the north side of Jupiter Island. It happened just before 10am.

8-females, 6–males and 2-children are in custody. One female, who is pregnant, was transported to the hospital for observation. The initial reports that 20-30 people were seen running from a boat. It appears that some of the individuals are of Haitian descent and others are Columbian. It does not appear that the number is that high.

MCSO had air, ground and marine units in the area.
