Stuart Teen faces grand theft auto charges

Stuart, Fla-A teenager from Stuart is facing grand theft auto charges. A woman reported her car stolen from her apartment on Monday morning. That night, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office recovered her car from a ditch near Geneva Drive and Huron Avenue. On Tuesday, a homeowner called police to say he overheard a teen talking on a cell phone about how police are looking for him and that he needed to leave town. Police responded to the home and found the suspect hiding in the attic. The suspect, 18-year-old Eli Margolis, told police he and two friends were looking for unlocked cars to break into when he found a key in the woman’s car and drove off with it. No word on whether the two other individuals are in custody.
