STUART MINOR TRAFFIC OFFENSE TURNS INTO FELONY CHARGES

STUART MINOR TRAFFIC OFFENSE TURNS INTO FELONY CHARGES FOR SUSPECT

On March 14, 2017 at approximately 8 pm, Officer Corey Lee was on patrol in the parking lot of North Shore Plaza. A maroon sedan pulled in front of Officer Lee nearly striking his patrol vehicle.

The suspect vehicle pulled in front of Sensations Cabaret. Then he driver, Johnson Filius, exited his vehicle and walked quickly towards the business. Officer Lee ordered Johnson to take his hands out of his pockets and produce his driver’s license. Filius refused and a struggle ensued. Johnson struck Officer Lee and ran away. Officer Lee chased Johnson but then he lost sight of him.

Approximately a half hour later, Stuart Police received a call from a boat owner reporting an individual whom he did not know was sleeping in his boat.

Officers arrived at the boat and arrested Johnson Filius. He was subsequently charged with resisting arrest. He was also charged with violence, burglary, battery on a law enforcement officer, and driving while license suspended.

Then a search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle.  The police found a stolen firearm and a small amount of drugs.

Additional charges are likely.
