Stuart Mayor Resigns
Stuart Mayor Tom Campenni has resigned after a city worker filed a complaint. The complaint allege that the mayor discriminated against him because of his age when applying for the new City Manager’s position.
Sam Amerson is the Public Works Director. He submitted the written complaint against the Mayor. The complaint said Campenni discouraged him from submitting an application because the Mayor wanted quote “a younger guy with fresh ideas.”
The Mayor denies the allegation. He does admits to saying “he prefers a candidate who is not close to retirement.”
Amerson has now applied for the City Manager opening. He has been told the selection process will run its course, allowing for the best candidate to get the job.
