Building
In the aftermath of disasters in which large numbers of buildings are damaged, there are likely to be opportunists posing as legitimate contractors willing to assist you in making needed repairs. The best way to avoid these unscrupulous or illegal operators is to ask for proof of both a current state contractor’s license and a certificate of worker’s compensation insurance.

Debris Collection

Debris collection will begin on Monday, September 18, 2017. Residents with yard waste and storm debris should separate material in two piles along the right of way, not in the road. Please take care not to block access to fire hydrants, mail boxes or utility boxes. Avoid placing debris under low hanging wires.

Events
The Fort Pierce Police Athletic League will be hosting a free BBQ open to the public at PAL Park (903 S 21stStreet, Fort Pierce) tomorrow, September 16, 12-2 p.m.

The Fort Pierce Farmer’s Market is open as usual tomorrow, September 16,  8am – noon! Take a relaxing break from your hurricane clean-up to stock up on fresh produce and goods and enjoy a tasty treat or snack!

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center
The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center is scheduled to open within the next 3-5 days at the Fenn Center (2000 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce) to assist individual residents.  Residents seeking FEMA assistance should contact the federal agency directly; as local governments are not involved in the reimbursement/claims process for individuals or businesses. FPUA Update
FPUA has restored electric service to 23,552 (99%) of the customers that lost electric service after Hurricane Irma. They currently has 222 customers without power.

Parks
All parks in the City of Fort Pierce have been cleaned and restored and are open to the public, including Jetty Park.

Schools
St. Lucie Public Schools
St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) looks forward to welcoming all students and staff back to school on Monday, September 18th.  SLPS will resume normal operations which includes transportation as well as before- and after-school programs and activities.  

IRSC
Indian River State College will reopen on Monday, September 18, 2017.

St. Anastasia Catholic School and John Carroll Catholic High School
St. Anastasia and John Carroll will reopen on Monday, September 18, 2017.

Shelter
The emergency shelter at the Percy Peek Gym, 2902 Avenue D in Fort Pierce will remain open for residents effected by Hurricane Irma until further notice, thanks to the American Red Cross, City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County. Individuals should bring items needed for comfort, including: blankets, linens, non-perishable food for individual preference or dietary needs. Medications in prescription bottles, medical supplies, medical equipment. Personal items; important papers, glasses, hygiene articles, clothing, flashlight, quiet games i.e cards, books.

Tree Removal
Removal of downed and severely damaged trees does not require a permit, however; it is the resident’s responsibility to remove downed trees on their property.

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority Update – September 15, 2017, 5:00 pm

Electric
FPUA has restored electric service to 23,552 (99%) of the customers that lost electric service after Hurricane Irma. FPUA currently has 222 customers without power. We ask that the remaining customers without power to remain patient as FPUA and mutual aid electric crews work to restore your service.

Customer Service
FPUA Customer Solutions (CS) is located at 206 S 6th Street and can be reached by phone at 772-466-1600, extension 3900. The CS drive up window located at is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and the CS lobby is open 9:00 am -5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Online payment services are available. Damage Reports

St. Lucie County residents can now report storm and flooding damage to their homes and businesses using the My St. Lucie Mobile App. Within the app simply select the “Storm Damage” request type or access it on the website: www.stlucieco.gov/mystlucie.

The My St. Lucie app allows residents to easily submit requests for services; ask questions or request public records. Directly through the app, residents can take a photograph of a problem area such as a pothole or flooded street and send that image and location to St. Lucie County to be properly routed to the correct department for processing. After submitting requests, residents can use the mobile app to track the status of their request.

Business Damage Reports

  • St. Lucie County local businesses impacted by Hurricane Irma are asked to complete the Florida Virtual Business Emergency Operations Center “Hurricane Irma Survey.” This survey will assist local and state governments in learning the impacts to our business community and expedite resources available to you and your employees to get your business back up and running and your employees back to work.   • St. Lucie West Career Center, 584 NW University Blvd.-Suite 300 in Port St. Lucie, will open Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m. The staff will be able to assist St. Lucie County residents who might need assistance with Emergency Unemployment or other services offered by the Career Center including job placement.
  • Those needing access to computers and internet can visit St. Lucie County Libraries.

Donations

  • St. Lucie County is accepting donations, in cooperation with Mustard Seed to help with Hurricane Irma efforts. Donations can be delivered to Mustard Seed, 3130 S US 1 in Fort Pierce, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Supplies that are needed include:
  • Diapers (all sizes)
  • Wipes
  • Water
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Buckets
  • Baby food/formula
  • The United Way of St. Lucie County is accepting monetary donations to help with Hurricane Irma relief efforts.  At this time donations can be made at www.unitedwayslc.org. For further information, call 772-464-5300.

Garbage/Debris Pick Up

  • Vegetative debris pick up will begin on Monday, Sept. 18, including in private/gated communities. Residents cleaning up vegetative debris should stack debris in their yard and not the road. Also, do not stack debris near/in front of fire hydrants or utility poles or place vegetative debris in bags. Furthermore, be sure to separate yard/vegetative debris from household waste and refuse.

  • Waste Pro has begun normal garbage and recycling pickup with the exception of those residents on Indian River Drive. Due to the closure of Indian River Drive from Walton Road to the county line, Waste Pro has placed a 20-yard dumpster at the corner of Indian River Drive and Walton Road Tuesday morning. Residents along the closed section of the road may bring their refuse to this location and place it into the dumpster until the street is open and normal collection service returns.

  • When hiring someone to handle home repairs, remember to only use licensed contractors and be aware of scammers or predators that may be in our neighborhoods looking for an easy opportunity. For a list of licensed contractors check your city or county website or with the Treasure Coast Builders Association for a list of reputable and licensed contractors.

Water Distribution

Port St. Lucie Utility Systems has established emergency water supply depots to provide water to residents who do not have access to water at their homes due to power outages at the following locations:

  • Shell gas station at Tulip Boulevard /Darwin Boulevard
  • Parkway Elementary School at Selvitz Road /Manville Drive
  • Publix at Prima Vista Crossings at U.S. 1 /Prima Vista Boulevard
  • Speedway on U.S. 1 near Kitterman Road

Residents will need to bring containers as these are self-service stations.

Volunteers

St. Lucie County’s Community Services Department is ready to start mobilizing volunteers looking to assist with the cleanup of Hurricane Irma. Cleanup 

  • From now through Sept. 30, call the number below for help with home cleanup. As they are able, reputable and vetted relief agencies may assist you and your neighbors cut fallen trees, remove drywall, insulation, flooring, furniture, appliances, tarp roofs, etc. All services are free, but service is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming need.Importantly, this hotline CANNOT assist with social services such as food, clothing, shelter, insurance, or questions about FEMA registration. Volunteers work free of charge and provide the tools and equipment necessary to complete the work. To request help:
