Due to erosion caused by this week’s heavy rains, St. Lucie County’s Public Works Department has closed the southernmost section of Indian River Drive from Walton Road to the Martin County line. Barricades are established at each end of the closed area to allow residents access to and from their homes.
St. Lucie County has issued an emergency declaration and is working with Ranger Construction to stabilize the two areas where the road and shoulder has been impacted by the more than seven inches of rain that has fallen in recent days.
Motorists are advised to avoid Indian River Drive until further notice. Weather permitting, crews hope to have the road opened by early next week.
