Earlier today, School Resource Deputies arrested a student at Westwood High School for possession of weapon. The 16-year-old student was found to have this BB gun stuffed inside his pants. Another student informed school officials who then notified deputies. The suspect said he found the BB gun.
Sheriff Mascara reminds parents of how real this gun looks and how dangerous it is for a law enforcement officer to encounter someone with a BB gun that looks so realistic. He encourages all parents and guardians to have serious and meaningful conversations with children that law enforcement can’t distinguish between a BB gun and a real gun until it’s too late.
Fortunately, deputies did a great job safely resolving this situation without anyone being hurt.
