Primitive tent and RV camp sites open at Port St. Lucie’s McCarty Ranch Preserve

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Visitors already know Port St. Lucie’s McCarty Ranch Preserve for its excellent hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing opportunities – and beginning Nov. 6, visitors also will be able to camp under the stars in this primitive and rustic setting.

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department has added 13 primitive tent camp sites and six RV trailer sites at McCarty Ranch Preserve at 12525 Range Line Road.  The addition of the camp sites is one way the City is working toward fulfilling its strategic goal of expanding “culture, nature and fun” activities in Port St. Lucie.

Visitors will be able to reserve a camp site beginning Nov. 6 at the Port St. Lucie Community Center at 2195 SE Airoso Blvd, where the Guest Services staff can assist with the reservation.

The cost for a primitive tent site is $20 per night, plus tax. An RV site is $23 per night, plus tax. Visitors can stay for up to 14 nights in the tent sites and up to 30 days at the RV sites. Pets are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash while on the property.

Every site has a fire ring with a foldable grill, a lantern hook and picnic table. Bathroom facilities with showers, are available for all campers.

The tent sites accommodate primitive or “back country” camping, where campers will be required to carry their supplies along a trail to the camping sites, as there is no parking, water connections or electricity at the sites.

The RV sites are “dry,” meaning there is no utility hook ups, water, sewer, or electric.  RV campers are encouraged to be prepared to be self-sustaining while visiting the Preserve.  A waste station will be provided for RV campers to empty their blackwater holding tanks.
