Pregnant Victim Hospitalized after Domestic Violence Incident

West Melbourne Police have arrested 23 year old Jeremy Christian Barry on a slew of felony charges stemming from a domestic violence incident that began on March 1, 2017.

The 20 year old victim is pregnant with Barry’s child. The couple lived together in the City of Melbourne.  The victim fled from the residence just after 1:30 am this morning after Barry tied her to a chair and held a knife to her throat yesterday.

Once at a relative’s residence in West Melbourne, the victim called the police. After police arrived and took the report, Barry knocked on the door to the relative’s house identifying himself as “Melbourne Police Department.” When the victim opened the door with her 9 month old baby in her arms, Barry pushed her aside and took the baby.

The victim attempted to call 911 on a cell phone, but Barry saw her attempting to hide the cell phone under a couch. He disabled the cell phone and threw it in the toilet. The victim next remembers waking up on the floor with a bloody face. When she woke, Barry began beating her with a chair in the rib area. After several painful strikes, the victim began protecting her mid-section with her arms. The force of the chair strikes broke the bones in one of her arms. She also suffered multiple abrasions to her face as she went in and out of consciousness. Her injuries required medical attention at a local hospital.
Barry brought the victim to the hospital where he forced her to say she was involved in a traffic crash. Barry then left the hospital, leaving the baby behind. After officers left the hospital, Barry returned several hours later and was taken into custody without incident.
