Port St. Lucie community votes to name park “Woodland Trails Park”

Groundbreaking ceremony set for Dec. 2

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL (Treasurecoast.com) – The City’s newest neighborhood park will be named “Woodland Trails Park” after a majority of neighbors who participated in a community survey voted that name as their top choice.

Construction will begin next month on the 13-acre park between SW Edinburgh Drive and SW Calmar Avenue.  Woodland Trails Park will include nature trails, a dog park, natural buffer, open space play area, parking and pavilion with picnic tables, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, restrooms and sidewalk connection to Becker Road.

This property was designated in 2002 as a future park site and the park project will be entirely funded with recycling revenue.

“This is a much-needed neighborhood park for Southwestern Port St. Lucie. Neighborhood parks are special because they add value and character to the neighborhoods they serve,” said Port St. Lucie Vice Mayor Shannon Martin. “The City is very excited to see its strategic plan in action with the construction of this park. We are so proud to say that it has been paid for with recycling revenue. Thank you to all residents who recycle – you’ve just helped create a beautiful park that will meet several significant needs of the City.”

A groundbreaking ceremony for Woodland Trails Park will be Saturday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Calmar Avenue and Earth Lane. Residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This will be the City’s first neighborhood park since the construction of Elks Lodge/Friendship Park in 2005. Construction on Woodland Trails Park is expected to be complete in early May 2018.
