Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Investigating a Deputy Involved Shooting

On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 8:17 pm, deputies were dispatched to a neighbor disturbance call in the 600 block of Mercury Street, West Palm Beach.

The chain of events are as follows:  Deputies arrived to find the neighbor disturbance was over. They located a male lying on the front lawn with extensive stab wounds barely clinging to life, a female with numerous lacerations and a male holding a long machete.

First responding deputy took a position to protect the injured male and instructed his partner to retrieve a less lethal device while giving the armed male verbal commands to put the weapon (machete) down and let me see your hands.  The armed male raised the machete and advanced towards the deputy.  At that time, our deputy discharged his service weapon striking the male.  Both the victim and the armed male were pronounced dead on scene.

PBSO deputy is currently on paid administrative leave which is department protocol.

The injured female is being treated at an area hospital and is expected to survive.

This investigation is still very active and ongoing.
