Nasty Weather Sparks Fires

Some nasty weather Monday afternoon sent St Lucie County firefighters to some downed power lines at SE Lingate Dr. and Veterans Memorial Pkwy. Lines were also down in the 1000 blk of SW Barbarosa Ave. reportedly due to a lightening strike that hit some lines in trees setting 2 palm trees on fire.

And in Martin County a 100-year old oak tree split and fell into the roadway at the entrance of the Palm Oak Estates on Connors Highway.

The dry brush and frequent lightning are combining to create several wildfires in Martin County and the Treasure Coast. At least 4 confirmed cases over the past few days, and Melissa Yunas with the Florida Forest Service says that most of them are in hard to reach areas.

Most of the fires to date have been in the Pratt-Whitney corridor or west of I95all along the Treasure Coast.
