Lyft partners with St. Lucie County to provide rides for disadvantaged.

St Lucie County (Treasurecoast.com)-St Lucie County has expanded a transportation program for lower-income residents. It will provide after-hours transportation through the popular ride-sharing program Lyft.

Similar to Uber, Lyft allows users to make ride reservations with local drivers through smart-phones. Adding Lyft would make transportation more convenient and more readily available to those enrolled in the county’s Direct Connect program, which provides rides to the elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged, county officials said in a news release.

Clients without a smartphone can reserve Lyft service through the Transit Division during regular business hours, according to the county.

Those who don’t want to use Lyft still can access St. Lucie’s traditional transportation, according to the news release.
