Local Sheriff’s remind you to lock your doors.

The Martin and St Lucie County Sheriff’s Offices have been reminding their Facebook followers every night to remove all valuables from their car and to lock their doors.

There have been a constant stream of reports of people breaking into cars at night.

The Port St Lucie police department have responded to 7 smash and grab auto burglaries. This happened  from June 6th through the 28th.  In each case a purse, tote bag, or backpack was taken. Then, last week in Martin County an 11-year old boy was arrested after burglarizing several cars. The 11-year old told deputies that he snuck out of his house at 3am and started checking car doors in his neighborhood. He eventually found an SUV that was not only unlocked, but had the keys inside. The boy started the car, but didn’t make it very far before he crashed. Fortunately, no one was injured. The 11-year old however was charged with grand theft and burglary.
