When the officer turned his vehicle around to make a traffic stop, Calderon drove off the sidewalk and accelerated rapidly across Broadway and traveled east on Oregon Avenue. The officer tracked Calderon to a home in the 30 block of N. Pine street and shouted at him to stop as he ran inside the residence. Calderon did not stop and continued inside.

Calderon eventually came out of the home at the officer’s request and cooperated with the investigation. The officer ultimately determined that in addition to operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a public roadway, Calderon was intoxicated.

Calderon was taken in to custody. He was then transported to the Indian River County jail for processing. Once there, he failed the field sobriety tests. He provided breath samples of .137 and .133. The per se limit in Florida is .08. Calderon was also charged with resisting an officer without violence.
