Martin County is under a hurricane watch due to Hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew is a major hurricane which threatens Florida’s coast, including Martin County. A wide range of weather impacts could occur locally, including strong winds, heavy rain, storm surge and potential flooding.

Martin County is working with its partners to begin activation of Anderson Middle School in Stuart as a Special Needs Shelter Wednesday, October 5 at 2:00 pm. This shelter is for residents with special medical needs who have pre-registered. Residents who come to the shelter and do not meet the requirements, will be re-directed to another shelter suitable for their needs. Residents with special needs who have not registered, please call 772-287-1652.
Red Cross shelters will open late Wednesday and will provide food and shelter for affected residents. Information related to times and locations will be announced shortly.
News from Martin County Schools: Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 5, will be an Early Dismissal day for Martin County School District students. Extended Day programs will not be available. Further, schools and Extended Day will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All before-school and after-school activities and athletic events are cancelled on these days as well.
News regarding Bathtub Reef Beach: Effective tomorrow, Wednesday, October 5, Bathtub Reef Beach will not be guarded. The beach will remain open to the public. Swim/bathe at your own risk. In preparation for impacts of Hurricane Matthew, Fire Rescue has removed lifeguard stands from the Bathtub Beach shoreline.
News from the Florida Department of Health in Martin County: The Department of Health in Martin County will close its facilities in Stuart and Indiantown on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Regular hours are expected to resume on Monday, October 10.
