Hobe Sound Shooting Update

MCSO INVESTIGATORS STILL LOOKING AT CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING LAST NIGHT’S FATAL HOBE SOUND SHOOTING

Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate circumstances the fatal shooting of 37-year old James White. White was shot and killed during a domestic altercation between himself and his brother-in-law, Adrian Dixon. At this time, no charges have been filed against Adrian Dixon, and he has been released.

The shooting took place around 6:11 p.m. in the front yard of a home at 8606 SE Aurora Way in Hobe Sound, which belongs to a relative of both Dixon and White.

According to Adrian Dixon, he was sitting in his car when James White pulled up. White exited his vehicle and began to approach Dixon. Dixon told investigators he ordered White not to come closer as he was in fear for his safety. White continued to approach Dixon. Dixon said that is when he pulled a gun and fired four shots. Two of the bullets hit White in the chest. Detectives who were conducting an unrelated search warrant on a home in the same area, heard the gunfire and immediately ran to the scene where they saw James White laying on the ground. Several officers began to perform CPR on White. Adrian Dixon immediately surrendered to deputies without incident. Despite lifesaving efforts by deputies and paramedics, James White was pronounced dead at the hospital. Adrian Dixon provided a statement to detectives.

Upon further investigation

Upon further investigation, detectives learned that James White and his wife were having domestic issues. Adrian Dixon, who is the brother of White’s wife, told deputies White was angry at him for becoming involved in the situation. He said that White made verbal threats to him recently making him fearful for his life. Several hours before the shooting, Adrian Dixon filed paperwork requesting an injunction against White because he feared for his life. That injunction was denied. Shortly after, White drove to the home on SE Aurora Way where his wife was inside and Dixon was sitting in his car outside. That is where the altercation took place, ending in the fatal shooting.

At this time, no charges have been filed, however, this investigation is still on-going.

Detectives continue to speak to witnesses and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to call the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 220-7170.
