Fort Pierce police detectives arrest suspect after Thursday night shooting

Fort Pierce police detectives arrested a 36-year-old man after a shooting incident Thursday night on North 23rd Street. The victim of the shooting is in Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in stable condition. He was shot in his upper back.

The suspect, Lamontez Lurry, was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and was taken to St. Lucie County Jail.

At about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a call of gunshots in the 2400 block of Avenue E. While they were searching the area, they got another call of a man shot in the 500 block of North 25th Street. The victim, a 42-year-old male, was on the ground, but conscious, and he gave officers a description of the shooter.

Other officers nearby spotted Lurry, who matched the description, and Lurry then fled on foot. He was apprehended at his home in the 700 block of North 23rd Street.

The victim told investigators he was shot while trying to break up a fight between Lurry and a woman when Lurry pulled a gun and began shooting. After being shot, the victim ran to his home on 25th Street where his friend called police.

Detectives are still working to determine any possible relationships between Lurry, the victim and the woman.
