Fatal road rage shooting in Vero Beach

Indian River, Fla-Tonight at approximately 7:03 pm, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls in reference to a shooting at the 5300 block of SR 60.  Responding deputies arrived to find one subject, a male, deceased in the east bound lane of SR60, directly next to his car. The driver’s side door of his vehicle was open and the window was shattered. There were several shell casings in the road as well.  It is unknown at this time, the number of rounds which struck the victim.

Another subject believed to be the shooter was on-scene and had pulled into the parking lot directly south of the victim’s car. This subject was believed to have called 911 to report the incident. He was with a female passenger.

Witnesses report the two vehicles were stopped in the east bound lane at the traffic light at 53rd Avenue when the shooting occurred. One of the witnesses was passing the scene when his vehicle was struck by at least one bullet, but neither he nor his passenger, a three year old, were injured.  Additional witnesses are also being questioned.

Neither the name of the victim nor the suspected shooter are being released at this time.  Crime scene investigators are expected to remain on scene for several hours. East bound traffic on SR 60 is closed from 58th Avenue to the 5200 block.
