Department Store employee arrested for fraud and grand theft

On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, Port St. Lucie Police arrested Kerry Joe Natalee Clarke  for grand theft and organized scheme to defraud after she allowed merchandise to be taken from the store without payment and fraudulently returning some property.

On November 29, 2016, Port St. Lucie Police went to Home Depot located in the 2200 block of SW Gatlin Boulevard for reports of employee theft.  Once on scene police met with the store’s Asset Protection Manager.  The manager told police that they conducted an internal investigation into theft and fraudulent activities by one of their employees, Kerry Clarke.  Police learned that between the months of August 2016 and October 2016, Clarke had rung up purchases then voided out the purchase and still allowed the person to leave with the merchandise without payment.  The manager then explained that some of the stolen items were brought back to the store for fraudulent returns.  The amount of the theft was approximately $3,000.00 and the amount of the fraudulent returns totaled around $700.00.

The manager had already interviewed Clarke where she admitted to the theft and fraudulent returns.  Clarke told police that she did this because she was being treated poorly by her manager.  Clarke hoped that her manager would receive a bad review on the next store inventory due to the loss.

Clarke was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
