Debris Removal moving forward

It might not feel like it if you still have a big pile of debris left over from Hurricane Matthew, but Martin County says their collection is moving ahead of schedule. Over half of the estimated 60,000 cubic yards of debris has been collected in the first two weeks.

Collection of all debris was originally expected to take 6 weeks, but now authorities believe they will be able to finish in three weeks.

Debris collection following Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in 2004 took 24 weeks, and it took over 8 weeks to complete debris collection following Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Meanwhile, collection in Port St Lucie is also running ahead of schedule. Instead of taking 60 days like initially estimated, collection is now expected to wrap up by the end of next week.
