Credit Card Skimmer Found at Vero Beach Gas Station

Staff at the Sunoco gas station, located at 2465 27th Avenue SW in Vero Beach, received several calls from customers saying that their cards had been used fraudulently after visiting the station. Upon inspection, the staff identified a skimmer device attached to one of the gas pumps and immediately contacted the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies removed the device and are now investigating who may have placed this device.
“The pump with the skimmer attached did not have security tape on the exterior of the pump to ensure that it was not tampered with,” said Indian River County Sergeant Milo Thornton. You are encouraged to always inspect the gas pumps or ATM before inserting your card. Gas pumps should have a security seal or tape on the outside showing that they have been inspected.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “Our detectives are working today on several good leads in this case. We will track down whoever placed this device and bring them to justice.” Anyone who may have visited this Sunoco gas station should check their credit card statement for fraudulent activity. You may contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 772-978-6240 to report fraudulent credit card activity at this or other location.
