Concerns about Lake O levee and St Lucie River

Lake Okeechobee continues to rise as we are still drying out from Irma and had the tropical system move over the state over the weekend. Now, concerns increase about the Lake’s levee, and damage to the sensitive St. Lucie River. Lake Okeechobee is now nearly 3 feet higher than it was just three weeks ago when Irma blew through. Because of the rising level and concerns about the dike, the Corps of Engineers has been releasing water from Lake Okeechobee to the coasts. The levee around Lake Okeechobee is classified as one of the nations most vulnerable dams.
